How Seb Azzo changed a European creative community with Heyday

Three years ago we started Heyday in Malta – an series of informal networking events aimed at connecting and strengthening a creative community.

The creative community in Malta is astoundingly buzzing with fresh talent in software development, design, illustration, photography — you name it! Malta-born Seb Azzo co-founder Michael Azzopardi decided to shine a light on the thriving talent pool with a series of after-work events.

It all started in 2015. The community loved the idea and turned up in their hundreds, with 300 creatives registering for the very first event.

The monthly meetup featured panellists and speakers from some fantastic European startups like David Darmanin CEO of Hotjar, Andrew Bezzina co-founder of e-Cabs, Peter Grech founder of BRND WGN and many more.

The setting is the picturesque city of Valletta — no chairs required!

We recently teamed up with iGaming company Casumo who have very kindly hosted us in their wonderful Odditorium.

We made sure that every event has a compelling theme. Throughout the months we discussed everything from design, software and the impact of creative businesses on a thriving island like Malta.

Heyday helped forge some great relationships amongst the community, with some companies finding the Ruby on Rails developers they for so long yearned for, and entrepreneurs meeting partners who then go on to start a company. Now that’s a result!

Seb Azzo, in collaboration with its partners, intends to continue Heyday and its mission to connect creatives and bridge gaps in the industry.
